The weather is getting nicer, that means a lot of people will be fishing soon. But it will cost you a little more in Indiana now.The state passed a law changing that hikes the cost of a fishing license. It will now cost $17 dollars a year plus fees for a trout stamp for anyone under 65.Seniors will pay $3 for a year, or buy a lifetime license for $17.
The change came about to keep more federal money in the Hoosier state.Indiana Conservation Officer Seth Owens says, “I know it was brought up because a lot of seniors went to their representatives and they said ‘hey, we wouldn’t mind paying this so we get our federal money back’. And so they just created the, it’s now state law. So it had to go through the legislature.”The new law takes effect Tuesday. You can go to www.in.gov/dnr for more information
