Protecting the environment is one reason to recycle your computer but there is another reason that you should do it, to protect yourself. Almost all of us have sensitive private data on our computers that we wouldn’t to fall into somebody else’s hands. However if your computer goes into a landfill that is exactly what could happen. Anybody could grab your computer out of the landfill and then have access to your information. No matter how well you think you have erased the information it is usually still possible to recover it. The only way to be sure the information doesn’t end up some place that it isn’t supposed to be is to completely dismantle your computer, like they do when you recycle it.

If you are going to recycle your computer you are going to want to make sure that you take it to somebody who will do it properly and we do it properly and securely. A lot of recycle places  will simple take out the valuable metals and then throw the rest into the landfill. This is hardly doing anybody any good since the metals inside represent only a very small part of the computer.
